This one started with a glance. My reference came from a photo I took in the Tetons, a brown bison, but I wanted to tell the story of the mysterious white bison. I went back to it more than once – not because it was perfect, but because it felt like it had something to say. The painting didn’t come together all at once. It revealed itself slowly…. layer by layer, decision by decision. Some pieces ask for patience. This was one of them. It lived on my easel for four months. And in the end, it became less about the subject – and more about the feeling it left behind.
