Markus left his compadres on the trail and headed to the creek on a cold spring day aiming to freshen up a bit before he saw his love, Arabelle. Thinking this was an ideal time for a joke, the gang stole his clothes, but not before he grabbed his pistol and gunbelt. Markus, as it turned out, doesn’t have much of a sense of humor and waits to take a clean shot.

He has lived a rough, lonely life in the mountains for years – a life not suitable for a wife and family. He travels to the frontier town in the spring to sell his furs. His profits from the fur trade were meant to bring her to him. Every spring he can be found asking for news. He is once again hoping to hear from her but there has been no pony express, no telegraphed message, so he will go once again to his self-imposed lonely life, with his horse and mule for companionship.

It is Saturday and on the rare occasions that Trapper Jesse comes to town, the children flock to him. Ma and Pa have told Sara Beth and Mary about the theater back East, so they are sure this is what they meant by a Saturday Matinee. Emma, Margaret Anne and Rose never heard of that thing called a theater, but they wouldn’t miss Jesse’s stories. Unicorns and all manner of creatures, dance from Jesse’s hands to their heads. And it must be true, every bit of it!

Joey loves to go with Pa. He rides a big stick at home with his brothers who have their own steeds (sticks). They ride the range as far as the corral fence and are fierce hombres. No one dares to stop them - except Ma when it is time for supper or bed. Now with Pa, Joey sits tall in the saddle.

Here is Willie The Kid. He left his wife and four kids on the farm one Saturday to go to town for supplies. He stopped in the saloon and got tangled with the wrong crowd - just never got around to going home. It looks like the Box Turtle Gang has corrupted this innocent young farmer.
