Just outside of Banff, Vermilion Lakes, Canadian Rockies. The Vermilion Lakes are shallow this time of year in later September revealing sand bars and grasses once covered by higher, earlier season waters. Patterns of varying shape, color and texture are created by the myriad, meandering little streamlets. Low, autumn sun casts longer shadows while setting off the rich color of trees and shrubs changing for the season. Already several dustings of autumn snow layer the higher peaks foretelling winter soon to come. For sale. $ 4900. Available at The Broadmoor Galleries 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906. 719-577-5744, www.broadmoorgalleries.com/darcie-peet/ www.darciepeet.com

Outside of Gunnison, Colorado, is Lake City, a small mountain town and historically, once thriving mining town. The canyon and stream out of Lake City is dotted with deserted mining equipment and buildings of days past and opens up into this broad valley where once another bustling mining town existed, Capital City at the base of Engineer Pass. Today, only a building or two remain. By the 3rd week in September a first dusting of snow threads higher peaks; aspen have turned to gold and a few jet trails scatter across azure skies. A hint of “today” contrasts with “history.” For Sale. $2900. Available at The Broadmoor Galleries, 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906. 719-577-5744, www.broadmoorgalleries.com/darcie-peet/ www.darciepeet.com

The north side of Pikes Peak looms large as fall, storm clouds tumble around the slopes sending light and shadow dancing while revealing a “change-of-seasons” blanket of snow. With shorter, autumn days it won’t be long until the sun is down, but with one last burst of energy, the low sun sets ablaze foreground pastures, a solitary group of aspen and layers of clouds. For Sale: $12,500. Available at The Broadmoor Galleries, 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906. 719-577-5744, www.broadmoorgalleries.com/darcie-peet/ www.darciepeet.com

Mt. Huntington, Alaska Range, near Mt. McKinley (Denali), it’s sheer face catching evening light. Bold and humbling. I was so glad to be back on the ground after this small plane ride around the massive peak of Denali. For Sale. $5200. Available at Settlers West Gallery, 6420 N. A step back in time… In Tucson’s historic district, Transformed Sonoran architecture from the late 1800’s – early 1900’s reflects the simplicity of adobe block walls, flat roofs along with sloping metal roofs. Nearby telephone lines create a dance of linear shadow patterns and geometric spaces across the upper walls. This little bit of history is spruced up for today, as a contemporary owner has embellished this “touch of yesterday” by adding so often-seen, vivid, periwinkle blue trim, white plantation shutters inside, decorative iron gate leading to a quiet, tiny patio energized with scarlet red geraniums and outside a traditional, hand-painted, talavera pot overflowing with more scarlet geraniums. Fascinating neighborhoods to explore and flourishing again today. For Sale. $4900. Available through David Wilkinson and ArtzLine, America’s Online Gallery, 800-958-5360, www.artzline.com/darcie-peet/ www.darciepeet.com
