McCullough Gulch, south of Breckenridge, Colorado, at the base of Mt. Quandry, a popular “fourteener” to climb. Hiking a little too early in the season, our adventure was cut short by snow and muddy trails, but the run-off feeding streams and waterfalls was spectacular! $4900. Standing on a hillside across from the Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado, on a very frigid, October morning waiting for the sun to rise. My feet and hands were freezing! Dawn finally spread warmth over the foothills and set October’s dusting of snow on Pike’s Peak aglow. $1600. Shadow Patterns and Scarlet

Shadow Patterns and Scarlet

A step back in time… In Tucson’s historic district, Transformed Sonoran architecture from the late 1800’s – early 1900’s reflects the simplicity of adobe block walls, flat roofs along with sloping metal roofs. Nearby telephone lines create a dance of linear shadow patterns and geometric spaces across the upper walls. This little bit of history is spruced up for today, as a contemporary owner has embellished this “touch of yesterday” by adding so often-seen, vivid, periwinkle blue trim, white plantation shutters inside, decorative iron gate leading to a quiet, tiny patio energized with scarlet red geraniums and outside a traditional, hand-painted, talavera pot overflowing with more scarlet geraniums. Fascinating neighborhoods to explore and flourishing again today. $4900. Available through David Wilkinson and ArtzLine, 800-958-5360, www.artzline.com/darcie-peet/

Trimmed in Autumn

Trimmed in Autumn

30 x 30 inches (L x W)
An early glimpse of the defining mountains of Paradise Valley, Montana, approached from the south and Gardiner, MT, at the edge of Yellowstone. On a crisp, azure morning, the key peaks of Paradise Valley, MT, slowly emerge above foothill plateaus, beckoning one to see what’s around the next curve. Autumn’s low sun casts long, bold, defining shadows setting off the rooftops of a scatter of distant ranch buildings while graceful, waving grasses of hayfields and pastures glow gold in September’s morning light. High-reaching, ever-changing clouds hint at a coming change in weather, and sure enough, snow moves in by the end of the next day. $6500. Available at A. Banks Gallery, 127 E. Main St., Bozeman, MT 59715, 406-586-1000, www.abanksgallery.com
