Sean Michael Chavez stuns at ninth solo show
New Mexico modernist Sean Michael Chavez had his ninth annual solo exhibition at Acosta Strong Fine Art in August. It was also his ninth straight sell-out show—every work sold to collectors. Chavez is one of the fastest-rising stars in the West, whose August show has now become a staple of the summer show circuit. The gallery is already making plans for his 10th show in 2027.

Dustin Payne nabs top lot at Buffalo Bill show
On September 24, the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale took place in Cody, Wyoming. The event realized more than $1.3 million in sales with a 90 percent sell-through rate. The top lot was Dustin Payne’s bronze work Last Stand at the O.K. Corral, which sold for $31,000. Other top sellers were Tucker Smith, Maeve Eichelberger, Krystii Melaine, Thomas Kegler, Max Werner and Santiago Michalek. The auction was hit by a power outage that extended throughout Cody. Participants sat in the dark with flashlights and emergency lighting for 45 minutes before power could be restored, but the auction largely continued. Western art can’t be stopped.
