Paige Pierson finds new collector in Santa Fe
In March, Southwest painter Paige Pierson unveiled new artwork at Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Almost immediately, one of the new paintings was sold to a new fan of her work. “A recent collector fell in love with Ghost Talus by Paige Pierson for its striking textures and layered complexity,” says Merlinda Melendrez, the gallery’s director of sales. “Beyond its visual appeal, the work resonated on a personal level, stirring reflection and a quiet sense of wonder. For this collector, acquiring Ghost Talus was not just about adding a painting to their collection, it was about embracing an experience, a story and a work of art that now holds a treasured place in their home.” See more of Pierson’s work at Blue Rain Gallery.

Remington strikes again at Vogt Auctions

On March 3, Vogt Auction Galleries out of San Antonio, Texas, offered bidders a Frederic Remington watercolor and gouache work titled A Study for Action. The work on paper, measuring just 17 inches wide, depicted a horse posed in a dramatic run. Estimated at $15,000 to $20,000, A Study for Action lived up to its name by drawing intense action from collectors. Back-and-forth bids drove the work higher and higher. When the dust settled, the Remington lot had claimed $132,000, more than six times over the high estimate. The result aligns with many Remington sales over the last year, during which time the famous Western artist has achieved large numbers across many mediums, including oils, works on paper, sculpture and even lithographs. Remington continues to be a major force at Western auctions, with no signs of stopping. —
