Enduring Visions

Welcome to the May issue of Western Art Collector! This is the issue where we turn our full attention to one of the most important cultural destinations in the country: New Mexico. Starting on Page 110, our annual State of the Art: New Mexico guide is designed to be both your inspiration and your roadmap to the Land of Enchantment. Our destination guide features 17 galleries, events, artists and museums, each offering a comprehensive look at what to see, where to go and when to experience it all.

Through our conversations on the American Art Collective podcast, we have had the opportunity to sit down with artists and cultural voices who help define this remarkable place. Painters like Sean Michael Chavez bring a fresh and authentic perspective to the Western narrative, while William Haskell reflects the enduring strength of Santa Fe’s modernist tradition. Artists such as Kim Wiggins, Jerry Jordan and Kathryn Stedham remind us of the deep roots and mentorship that continue to shape the region’s artistic future. In Santa Fe, art is infused in every building, from the many museums and cultural sites, to even the hotels, such as the La Fonda on the Plaza, which highlights how seamlessly art, hospitality and culture are woven into the fabric of the city itself. Places like Taos, Albuquerque, Gallup and others also offer unique experiences in the Southwest.

There is something truly singular about New Mexico. It is not just a destination; it is a cultural landscape where art, history and tradition intersect at the highest level to push the boundaries of Western art. The entire state offers an experience that is deeply rooted and constantly evolving. While New Mexico is important this month, our gallery previews will you keep you informed on new shows around the country. When it comes to acquiring works from these artists, it is just a matter of emailing or calling the gallery. Remember, someone might beat you to your favorite piece, so make inquiries soon.

New Mexico remains a place where meaningful connections happen. It is an art market, yes, but it is also a community, one that continues to shape the future of Western art. Welcome to the Land of Enchantment!
