The annual Spring Texas & Western Art Auction,hosted by San Antonio-based Vogt Auction Galleries, will offer an impressive collection of 275 artworks by a wide range of significant Texas and Western artists, including Frederic Remington, Julian Onderdonk, Fred Darge, G. Harvey, Ross Stefan, Porfirio Salinas, Robert Wood and more.

“We are working with a couple of very prestigious estates this year,” says Natalie Chapman, fine art specialist at Vogt. “Some highlights include a Frederic Remington painting coming from one of San Antonio’s most prominent art collector families, an incredible collection of Fred Darges, G. Harvey oils of both Texas and New York, some exquisite Kermit Oliver-designed Hermes scarves, Robert Harrison’s largest and finest Texas landscapes that hung in the Buckhorn Hall of Horns, phenomenal Carl Rice Embrey paintings done at the height of his powers, and of course a host of works by classic names like Robert Wood, Porfirio Salinas, Tom Lea and Peter Hurd.”

One of the Remington pieces in the sale, A Study for Action, depicts a galloping horse in watercolor and gouache on paper, estimated to sell for $15,000 to $20,000. Darge’s The Round Up – Texas, featuring a cowboy on horseback surrounded by cattle, has a presale estimate of $15,000 to $25,000. Additional highlights include Harvey’s bronze One of a Kind, edition 50 of 100, which is expected to fetch up to $5,000, as well as an untitled landscape by Onderdonk with a presale estimate of $9,000 to $12,000.
