Street Style

Gallery Wild hosts a solo show featuring works by Rudi Broschofsky.

There’s a contemporary, graphic feel to the artwork of Rudi Broschofsky, as if the artist takes traditional paintings and filters it through some sort of television screen, where they’re jumbled around and then spit back out. Rendered in striking pinks, blues, yellows and oranges,  they almost call back to the kinds of rudimentary images you might see on old computers in the ’80s and ’90s—but there’s nothing rudimentary about Broschofsky’s art.

“A simple description of my art style is what I call a ‘line drawing.’ The subject is created with thinner lines forming the highlights while the thicker lines generate the shadows,” says the artist. “More broadly, I’ve taken a street-art approach to the realm of Western art, building a unique fusion of the two distinct genres.”

Broschofsky, who is captivated by the images and stories of the American West, will be having a solo show at Gallery Wild in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

“Rudi Broschofsky’s latest collection redefines what Western art can be. With masterful use of spray paint and hand-cut stencils, he captures the ‘cool factor’ of the American West. Each work pulses with color, rhythm and rebellion, inviting viewers to see familiar Western imagery in a fresh, contemporary context,” says gallery owner Carrie Wild.

Collectors will be able to dive into 10-plus new works by Broschofsky, who works primarily with spray paint.

“It took many years of experimenting with different mediums and a broad stylistic range before I slowly built a composition that was both unique and recognizable as my own,” he says. “Heavily influenced by street art, I steadily grew increasingly attracted to spray paint, which eventually evolved into creating stencils. Ultimately, I wanted my subject matter to appear nonrepresentational up close but become more apparent with distance; this became achievable through the line-drawing style.”

In His Prime, spray paint on panel, 48 x 48 in.

The exhibition at Gallery Wild will hang from January 15 to 25, with an artist reception on Thursday, January 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. —
