Geoffrey Gersten zooms into Western objects
Known for his eye-catching Pop Art images of Western iconography, Arizona painter Geoffrey Gersten has long explored imagery involving bronco busters, bull riders and cowboys. But some of his newest works, now available at Altamira Fine Art, take the artist in a new direction as he paints small objects such as watches, matchbooks and pulp Western novels. The images, many of them quite large, offer macro-level views of these small items, which helps to enlarge their scale and impact. Many have Western themes, including matchbook imagery such as cowboys and cowgirls, the famous Marlboro Man, boots, round-ups, Texas and the national parks. In this work, Gersten paints the Lone Ranger. These new works are at Altamira Fine Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Leslie Lambert brings incredible work to Texas

Idaho painter Leslie Lambert was recently recognized at Fashion Week Stockyards Style in Fort Worth, Texas. Fashion Week Stockyards Style is a premier celebration of Western heritage, showcasing art, fashion and culture in Fort Worth’s historic stockyards. The event sparked all kinds of new works, including this piece, Tools of the Trade, which shows a close-up of a rider’s rope and saddle during a ride. Lambert is a signature member of Cowgirl Artists of America, a member of Women Artists of the West and the author of Watercolor 365.

Angie Haskell goes modern at Acosta Strong

New Mexico-based Angie Haskell is a multi-talented artist and author, and wife of painter William Haskell. Her newest work is leaning hard into more modernist forms, with stylized figures, bright colors and abstracted settings. In one of her newest works, Gunner, she shows a gunslinger airborne as he dual-wields revolvers. The heroic pose and the sense of movement propel the energy of the painting forward. The work is now at Acosta Strong Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The last piece she dropped off at the gallery sold within an hour, so act fast.

Modern West lands new Shonto Begay pieces

Modern West, a champion of thought-provoking and boundary-pushing contemporary art, has a new location in Salt Lake City. Work hanging in the new space includes paintings from Navajo painter Shonto Begay. “[He] has boundless gratitude towards living in and viewing the vast beauty of the Navajo land—his paintings live as expressions of the Shonto Plateau he calls home,” the gallery notes. “His impressionistic, rhythmic brushstrokes are visible in his paintings of desert vistas and colorful skies. He likens his artistic process to a ‘visual chant,’ with each of his strokes being a syllable of a word which contributes to the prayer of the composition.”
