Teresa Lynn Johnson’s current body of work centers on the portrayal of wild horses as symbols of freedom and the untamed spirit. These paintings invite viewers to experience moments that reflect the joys and struggles of living a life defined by self-reliance.

Babe, oil on canvas, 12 x 24 in.
Her process begins with excursions into wild horse territories, where she immerses herself in the environment, observing behavior, taking photographs and keeping notes. This allows her to gather authentic references to better understand the spirit of the horses, which she then translates onto canvas.

Power Play, oil on linen, 16 x 20 in.
Having grown up on a farm and spending time in nature, Johnson has a deep connection to animals and nature informs her creative output. Living in the western United States, with its untamed landscape, provides constant inspiration for her subject matter. Through her art, she hopes audiences will recognize that, much like wild horses, choosing an independent path in life involves struggles but ultimately leads to profound rewards.
Looking ahead, Johnson envisions expanding her thematic focus to include other wildlife and landscapes native to the western United States. As a dedicated representational artist, she remains committed to capturing the essence of the natural world with authenticity and emotional resonance.

Unconquered, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 in.
Her next appearance will be at the Salt Lake Art Show, May 14 through 17, at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. —
