Matt Eddmenson offers fresh cowboy themes
If you’re interested in slightly transgressive, boundary-leaping Western art, then look no further than Matt Eddmenson, who takes popular cowboy themes and implodes them within a mixture of pop culture, animation, comics and pulp. His painted works, many of which have a collage-like vibe, are meant to explore the cultural impact and continued presence of Western iconography within American culture. Eddmenson recently had a successful show at Preacher in Austin, Texas. The show was marketed more to non-Western collectors, but fans of Western works are sure to appreciate his depictions of the West.

Dan Stovall shines a light on working cowboys
Painter Dan Stovall has been exploring tough-as-nails cowboys recently, and his studio has been singing. Many of these new pieces have been sent to Parsons Gallery of the West in Taos, New Mexico, which has shown his work for several years. His figures have a unique look: square jaws, muscular frames, five-o’clock shadows, piercing eyes. The images are full of grit and determination, and support the classic myth of hardened cowboys in the American West.
