If you ask Russian-born artist Vladimir Muhin what his finest accomplishment has been, he wouldn’t say it was receiving the commission to paint the historical scenes inside Russian President Vladimir Putin’s yacht Ballada. He wouldn’t say it was painting the portrait of Russian Vice President Mikhail Kasyanov or the portraits of many powerful oligarchs who sought out his talents to bestow upon them a touch of immortality. He wouldn’t say it was being awarded the Rachmaninoff Gold Badge of the Academy or the myriad of other medals, awards and honors that have been bestowed upon him.
Rain Symphony, oil on canvas, 60 x 48”
Friends, oil on canvas, 48 x 36”
Dreams, oil on canvas, 30 x 48”Ask Vladimir Muhin what his finest accomplishment has been as an artist he will tell you, without a trace of false modesty: “I have accomplished little yet. I am a student of the arts every day and my best work and accomplishments are ahead of me.”
Since living in the United States for more than a decade, Muhin has turned his attention to the American West and westward expansion. The freedom and difficulties the Old West offered are themes that can be felt in Muhin’s paintings. The artist’s work transports viewers into the early American West with each and every painting.
