It is so magnificent to see artists creating at a high level, and continually excited to get in the studio every day. This is certainly the case with Jim Rey, who has been around the sun 83 times now.

He is sending eight new paintings to Claggett/Rey Gallery in Edwards, Colorado, where they will find eager collectors ready to snap them up. “This is even more meaningful when the artist is my father,” says Bill Rey, owner of Claggett/Rey Gallery. “It is as exciting as it was almost 40 years ago when I began working in a Vail gallery, which represented Dad’s work. It’s always wonderful, like Christmas morning, to see art arrive at the gallery from any artist. All these decades later I am still amazed and surprised by my father.”

Bill continues: “His creating has always been one of recognition, of a way of life in the ranching West. Men and women working with animals where there are no days off. My father is a damn good cowboy. Even though his chores have lessened today, he still visits his duties daily, whether in person or in his mind, reflecting on what has been or should be. Jim Rey has the luxury today to create from his desires of where he would like to be: riding the horses and doing the work with his brushes. His horses are his horses. With Dad, there is an incredible amount of empathy for the animals and people he depicts. Dad is a deep thinker, voracious reader and a lifelong learner. My father, Jim Rey, is always excited and concerned for life as we know it.” —
