The 36th Annual Bosque Art Classic will feature the Western works of more than 100 artists juried into the exhibition and sale. Returning to the show this year are 2020 award winners Linda Becker, Joe Barbieri, Tatsiana Harbacheuskaya, Steve Dunn, Eileen Nistler and Hebe Brooks. Other participating artists include Daniel Anz, Joel Edwards, Jing Zhao, Jean Olliver and Victor Blakey, as well as Dana Lombardo, who is new to the Bosque Art Classic this year. This year’s juror for the show is Cowboy Artists of America member Tyler Crow.

“My art focuses on portraits and figurative paintings in what I call loose realism,” says Lombardo, who will have three pieces in the 2021 show. “I grew up in rural Oklahoma and developed a strong interest in Native American and Western cowboy history, which are often a focus in my paintings...Cheyenne Morning is of a mother and daughter cooking over a pot in Cheyenne camp in the early morning…My goal is in some small way to depict the humanity of the Native American culture by showing the richness of their heritage.”

Joyce Jones—founding member of the Bosque Arts Center’s Art Council, which sponsors the exhibition and sale—is excited to get back to an in-person event this year. “It’s just like Christmas in June to me,” she says. “We’ve got quite a few new artists in the show…

I was just floored by [Lombardo’s] work. I’ve wondered where these people have been.” Regarding the many talented new artists she’s discovered recently, Jones adds, “It is very much heartwarming to me to go through all of these [works of art].”

Anz will also be bringing three paintings to this year’s event. “I began painting in oils as a teenager 20 years ago. Painting the landscapes of the West and Southwest is my passion. I live in central Texas and enjoy taking occasional trips to states such as New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Montana and others,” he says. He describes one of his pieces in the show, No Crossing Here Today: “[This painting] is inspired by the lighting I saw one day in the Colorado River near Moab, Utah. A cowboy on horseback gazes out over the river that has swelled with recent rains.”
