As the fall begins to sweep in with the changing colors of trees, the crispness in the air and a general feeling of happiness and contentment, so does the annual Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival, a beloved staple in downtown Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The massive community-wide festival features more than 50 events over a 12-day period, including the popular closing act, the Jackson Hole Art Auction. Visitors can dive into a menagerie of artwork by some of the best artists working in Western subject matter today. Among these artists are Connor Liljestrom, Troy Collins and 2021 featured artist Gary Lynn Roberts.

The featured artwork this year is Roberts’ oil painting The Wort Hotel, depicting one of Jackson Hole’s historic boutique hotels, dating back to 1941. Upon visiting the iconic hotel, Roberts says it was “like walking into history.” The artist wanted to tell a story of the town from the 1940s, and used a number of photographs from around this time period as the foundation and inspiration for the painting. In the scene are three cowboys on horseback surrounded by their dogs, trotting away from a snow-covered, lantern-lit Wort Hotel.

“One of the most incredible aspects of the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival is the intimacy between artist and collector,” says Britney Magleby, Fall Arts Festival director of events. “We’re excited to bring such a highly decorated, internationally celebrated artist to Jackson for this honor and can’t imagine a better individual to occupy this spotlight.”

Also included as part of the Fall Arts Festival are the beautiful impressionist landscapes of Collins, nestled in his studio in the middle of the Bitterroot Mountain Range. His Winter Expectations captures the artist’s signature subject of aspen trees as he pulls colors of winter not often noticed, like soothing pastel pinks, yellows and oranges interspersed amongst the trees. “I feel like I have been painting the best work of my career to date, and I am honored to be able to be present and display my work at Mountain Trails Gallery during Fall Arts Week in Jackson,” says Collins. “I love participating in the Quick Draw in the town square, which helps support the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, and creating a unique painting in a short amount of time. Fall Arts Week is one of my favorite weekends of the summer because I get visit with so many of my collectors and other artists who come into town just to express their love of art.”
