Known for her modern interpretations of classic wildlife subject matter, Carrie Wild will be showing her newest work at a solo show opening September 10 at Gallery Wild in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Solstice Dawn, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 40 x 30”
Wild, who uses acrylic paint along with gold leaf, reimagines and reinterprets the land and its wildlife through a prism of contemporary form and design. The works are at once recognizable—elk, fox, bison and other Western icons—and yet they inhabit colorful fields and loosely painted backgrounds that evoke abstract expressionism. In several of the works, including her Rendezvous in Color Twenty-Five, there is even a Pop Art sensibility to her work as she paints 25 neon-tinted bison arranged in rows.
Love Lights the Sky, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 48 x 72”
Raised on a horse ranch in Michigan, Wild grew up around horses and the outdoors and learned to appreciate animals through early experimentation with art, including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil and soft pastel. She also used photography to begin to capture her unique views of the West.
Rendezvous in Color Twenty-Five, acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 36 x 36”
“I focus on the presence of my subjects as I observed them in nature and then surround them with color that complements the experience,”
Her new show, Pigments of Imagination, opens September 10 and continues through September 20. An artist reception will be held opening night from 5 to 7 p.m.
