Lasting Impressions

The sculptures of Jeremy Bradshaw and the paintings of Jennifer Johnson will be on view

The sculptures of Jeremy Bradshaw and the paintings of Jennifer Johnson will be on view during an upcoming exhibition at Gallery Wild in Jackson, Wyoming. Both artists are in tune with nature, Bradshaw’s wildlife creations capturing the whimsical spirit of the animals he depicts, alongside Johnson’s instantly recognizable National Park series.Jennifer Johnson, Glacier Baring Falls Grizzly, oil on canvas, 24 x 16”

“I’m excited to show my work with Jeremy Bradshaw. I think our work complements each other so nicely, and it’s great to blend sculpture with two-dimensional work for a show,” says Johnson. “I thoroughly enjoy his wildlife subject matter and its fun whimsical twist. I love his variety of textures and patinas. One of my personal favorites of Jeremy’s is Tres Amigos. The piece is of three little owls, and each one has a different goofy personality. It reminds me of my three boys.”Jeremy Bradshaw, Stargazer, bronze, ed. of 25, 10 x 7 x 20”

Bradshaw’s sculptures often go beyond the typical bronze coat, with various textures and patinas that really bring his subjects to life. The artist brings a handful of new pieces to the show, including two of his favorites, Winter Blues and Stargazer. “Winter Blues is a group of four bluebirds huddled up together against the cold of a winter day...I chose the coloration of the patina to specifically represent three males and one female. The female is facing the opposite direction of the males and looking back over her shoulder. My intention was to represent the strong women in my life, and everyone’s lives, that choose their own path and don’t follow what ‘the guys’ are doing...Stargazer is a new barn owl sculpture that was just finished this spring. This piece was inspired by a fly-fishing trip that my wife and I took in the desert of eastern Oregon.  The first night we were there we stood in the open staring into the night sky...feeling mesmerized by the immensity of it all,” he says. “I wanted to impart some of that same sense of wonder into the expression in the owl’s face and the position of its wing and body.”Jennifer Johnson, King of the Prismatic, oil on canvas, 24 x 16”

Bradshaw continues, “[Jennifer and I] celebrate our subject matter. Jennifer’s National Park paintings transport me to another time and place where trips and adventures are planned with friends and family to experience the wild landscapes and animals of the open West that are set aside for all of us.”

Johnson has been working on her paintings that hearken back to classic national park posters for the last several years. For this show, the artist says she focused on Glacier, Grand Teton and Yellowstone. “Every time I visit these parks, I find a new hiking trail or beautiful view that I didn’t see before. It is easy to get inspired and come up with new paintings.”

Lasting Impressions opens with an artist reception on July 1 and remains on view through July 11. —
