“The Western landscape has always given me a sense of adventure. I love heading out on the road, hiking into a new place, and discovering what might be waiting around the next bend: a brilliant stand of aspens, a winding river, horses grazing in a valley, or mountains suddenly appearing in the distance. Those experiences become the starting point for my paintings,” she says. “I travel throughout the West with my camera and sketchbook, gathering impressions of places that excite me. Back in the studio, I’m not interested in simply recording the scenery. I want to capture the exhilaration of being there. I heighten the color, exaggerate patterns and rhythms, and create pathways that invite the viewer to travel through the painting.”

New works include We Journeyed Together Through the Valley of Life, Lake in the Aspen Forest and Heartland. In each piece, the landscape becomes a journey. “Rivers, trails and valleys pull us forward toward something not yet discovered,” the artist says. “That sense of possibility is what I love most about outdoor adventure in the West: you never quite know what you’ll find.” —
