Landscape painter Anton Pavlenko has new work in Bend, Oregon
Landscape painter Anton Pavlenko has unveiled new work for his show Changing Horizons in Bend, Oregon. Western Art Collector wrote about Pavlenko in the August 2026 issue, but we included the wrong gallery as part of the preview. We named the host venue as Mockingbird Gallery, but the solo show will be held at Peterson Contemporary Art. The two galleries are located about 500 feet from each other in Bend, Oregon, and they are both owned by Jim and Nathalie Peterson. Lego artist Greg Mayer makes big splash at Manitou Galleries
Arizona-based artist Greg Mayer doesn’t just play with his toys—he makes art out of them. Mayer creates elaborate three-dimensional portraits using Lego pieces. Like works painted in an impressionist style, Mayer’s creations appear to change at different distances. From far away, they are realistic and detailed with only the slightest hint of pixelization. But, as viewers get closer, the Lego pieces come into view, as does the work’s clever construction. This piece, Aura, was created with approximately 37,000 Lego pieces that are painted and glued into place on a plywood substrate. Although they are more sculptural, Mayer’s works are all original creations—each piece is one of one.

Jeremy Booth builds steam in the larger art market
We first saw artwork by painter Jeremy Booth at an unlikely location far away from the West; at the influential modern art fair, SCOPE Art Show, in Miami. Booth works by shooting photo images from working ranches around the country. Back in his studio, he isolates his subjects and gives them a Pop Art makeover that allows him to focus on form, bold color and the iconography of the West. “The cowboy is an American icon. My work honors the figure and explores both the reality and mythology surrounding this essential American archetype,” says Booth. This piece, Ritual, is part of America the Beautiful at Heather James gallery in Jackson Hole. The show runs through May 31, 2027.

Sanders Galleries gets new J.R. Hess wildlife works
Now available at Sanders Galleries in Tucson, Arizona, is this new J.R. Hess fox painting done in colored pencil and soft pastel. Hess’ incredibly detailed work almost reads as hyperrealism, but it’s all done with traditional materials. The artist is based in Colorado, and has shown with Sanders Galleries before. Some of his recent work is aimed at “bringing awareness to the importance of wildlife conservation and cultural preservation.” Other new work by the artist at the gallery include subjects such as racoons, owls, hummingbirds, coyotes and more.
