La Luz de Taos racks up $400,000 in sales
On June 6, more than 300 guests attended La Luz de Taos, presented by the Couse-Sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico. The sale and fundraiser for the museum not only featured a sold-out ticketed event, it also generated more than $400,000 in sales. Two major works that went home with collectors were Josh Elliott’s 13-by-60-inch Wild Plum Blossoms, which sold for $30,500, and also Eric Bowman’s Sound Expression, featured here, that sold for $54,000. While the majority of the sale was in the popular by-draw format, the Elliott and Bowman pieces sold during a minimum-bid portion that allowed bidders to push the number up over the retail value. Freeman’s hits $5 million in June sale
On June 7, Freeman’s auction house offered two American art auctions: American Art & Pennsylvania Impressionists and Western & Wildlife Art. The sales offered a chance for bidders to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Together they generated more than $5 million in sales. “We couldn’t be more pleased with what we were able to achieve for our clients,” says Adam Veil, Freeman’s vice president and head of American art. “I can’t think of a more fitting celebration for our nation’s semiquincentennial than proving just how strong the demand for American art and artists is at the moment.” The top Western lot was Joseph Henry Sharp’s Sunburst Crow Reservation, that sold for $320,000, nearly doubling the $180,000 high estimate.Powered by Froala Editor
