Welcome to the August issue of Western Art Collector! As I review this issue, the number of new and up-and-coming Western artists on our pages is both inviting and exciting for collectors. Let's start with a few notable new and rising artists in our pages: Taryn Boals, Sara Bloodwolf, Kyril Bruce DeFoor, Tanden Launder, Nealy Riley, Cyrus Walker, Jacob Lovett, Anton Pavlenko, among many others. Many factors, including their accomplishments and rising importance in the Western art world, led to our decision to feature their work in the pages of Western Art Collector.
Michael Clawson is constantly looking for, and contacted by, artists wanting to be in the magazine. His vetting process is done with a discernment based on a deep knowledge of the Western art world, a skill that makes Western Art Collector trusted in art-collecting circles. From a publisher’s perspective, it is exceptional to watch.
Alongside the emerging talent, we also have many of the most established artists in the Western world in the magazine. This issue includes Bill Anton, Tom Browning, G. Russell Case, Walt Gonske, Martin Grelle, Logan Maxwell Hagege, Bonnie Marris, Grant Redden, Jason Rich, Billy Schenck and many others. Old or new, count on the best artwork on the market appearing in these pages.
Additionally, we also have the best coverage of the market as well. In this issue, for instance, we have a comprehensive feature on the women artists of Gallery Wild. We interviewed gallery owner Carrie Wild and her painters and sculptors. They provide insight into the importance of supporting women artists. Read more on Page 56.
Even our cover artist is a first for us. The artwork is by J. Dylan Cavin, a Choctaw artist who paints and draws on ledger paper. We have never had ledger art on the cover until now. We will be at Santa Fe Indian Market on August 15 and 16, and we can’t wait to hand out our August issue of Western Art Collector alongside our August/September issue of Native American Art magazine. They are going to make a striking pair.
Enjoy this issue!
