Jonathan Noon makes a splash at Legacy Gallery
Arizona painter Jonathan Noon had an exceptional spring and is already chipping away at a stellar summer. First, he was at Scottsdale, Arizona’s Celebration of Fine Art for 10 weeks starting in January, and then he was immediately picked up by Legacy Gallery, which is now representing his work. Cyndi Hall, general manager at Legacy and Manitou Galleries, was pleasantly surprised by the early reception for Noon and his paintings. “It has only been a week and we have already sold three works,” she says. One of the pieces purchased was Still Waters, a 40-by-40-inch oil that sold for $16,000. Not bad at all for an up-and-coming Western artist.+++
Art of the West excels in Santa Fe
In May, Santa Fe Art Auction presented the Art of the West sale in its New Mexico showroom. Not only did the sale achieve $1.5 million in sales and a 95 percent sell-through rate, it also set several new world records, including for Southwest painter Robert Daughters. His painting Untitled (Chamisa Landscape) was estimated at $15,000 to $25,000, but sold for more than double the high estimate when it closed at $55,000. The previous auction record for Daughters was set in 2018 at $48,000. That painting also featured chamisa. Other artists with strong results were Billy Schenck, Frank McCarthy, Kim Wiggins and Oscar E. Berninghaus. —Powered by Froala Editor
