Spring Across the West

Welcome to the April issue of Western Art Collector! As I write this in late February, we are thawing from a significant winter in the Northeast, yet we know what follows—longer days, brighter skies and the unmistakable momentum of spring. For collectors, that seasonal shift brings renewed energy, fresh perspectives and new opportunities to acquire exceptional Western works. This issue brings you exciting discoveries. Beginning on Page 116, our special sections highlight two enduring pillars of Western collecting: Painting the National Parks and the Old West. Both subjects remain iconic within the genre as we celebrate the landscapes, history and storytelling that continue to define Western art and inspire artists working today.

Western contemporary and traditional art continues to thrive across the country, and this month we turn our attention to the Lone Star State. Our State of the Art: Texas (beginning on Page 102) highlights 10 standout galleries, museums, studios and auction houses that are shaping the vibrant Texas market. The most successful Western collectors know that strong relationships are just as important as strong acquisitions.

In our preview section, we have 12 shows and events you can attend this month, including John Moyers at Maxwell Alexander Gallery, Whitney Gardner at Medicine Man Gallery, Bruce Greene at InSight Gallery, Maura Allen at Altamira Fine Art and many more. Together, these shows and exhibitions reflect the diversity, strength and continued evolution of today’s Western art market.

Finally, April brings the highly anticipated Scottsdale Art Auction on April 10 and 11. This is a sale that collectors anxiously await every year, and since it’s our hometown sale, Western Art Collector will be there watching as the bids come in.

We hope you will attend two or more of the events that you read about during your April travels. The market is ultimately about people: the artists who create, the gallerists who champion and the collectors who preserve and support. We are all connected by our love of Western art, and spring is a beautiful time to deepen that connection. —
