Energy & Precision

Jackson Hole Art Auction brings in $1.3 million during a pair of February online sales.

After a record-breaking sale in September 2026, Jackson Hole Art Auction followed it up with a two-session online sale on February 11 and 12. Results were stellar: 91 percent sell-through rate with $1.3 million in sales.

Bill Anton, Where the Old Ways Are the Best Ways, oil on board, 24 x 30 in. Estimate: $10/20,000 SOLD: $34,375

Kevin Doyle, managing director, led the live sale with “energy and precision, sparking lively bidding throughout the auction,” the auction house notes.

The top lot was a 1913 cast of Cyrus Dallin’s Appeal to the Great Spirit, one of the more iconic bronzes in Western art. The piece, stamped as cast No. 92, was estimated at just $1,000 to $2,000. But consistent bidding drove it to $48,000—24 times over the high estimate.

John Bye, Winter in the West, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 in. Estimate: $8/12,000 SOLD: $24,000

Numerous other pieces went over estimate, including 15 of the top 20 lots. Other examples include Bill Anton’s Where the Old Ways are the Best Ways (est. $10/20,000) that sold for $34,000; John Hauser’s Another Shot (est. $15/25,000) that sold for $33,000; and John Bye’s Winter in the West (est. $8/12,000) that sold for $24,000, a new artist world record.

Cyrus Dallin (1861-1944), Appeal to the Great Spirit, 1913, bronze, cast No. 92, 20½ x 21 x 13¾. in. Estimate: $1/2,000 SOLD: $48,000

Other artists that had strong results were Malcolm Furlow, Glenna Goodacre, Tucker Smith, Tom Lovell, John Nieto and Ed Mell. The auction house turns its attention to its next sale in September in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. —
