New Mexico artist Cody S. Brothers captures Western landscape scenery using analog film photography, his true passion. For his upcoming exhibition at the Booth Western Art Museum, patrons will witness 17 large-scale black-and-white photographs, including 6-foot-wide panoramic Western landscapes, surreal double exposures and mysterious pinhole-camera scenes. About a quarter of these prints are recent and will be on view to the public for the first time.

Brothers utilizes a variety of cameras to achieve his desired results, with many images captured on rare, infrared film. He then meticulously hand-processes the prints in the darkroom of his Santa Fe-based Visions Photo Lab.
“Continually exploring the American West, Brothers works to capture its breathtaking beauty and the ongoing impact of civilization on the region,” says the museum. “His black-and-white infrared photographs often present glowing, white foliage, rocks and other elements against dark, cloudy skies, transforming familiar scenes into something new and hauntingly beautiful.”
One highlight is Rhyolite Bank Double Exposure, showing the remnants of an old bank in Rhyolite, Nevada. “The double exposure is both a vertical and horizontal capture of the left and right sides of the front of the bank,” Brothers explains.
