Quest for the West returns to Indianapolis
The Eiteljorg Museum’s annual Quest for the West exhibition was held September 5 and 6 in Indianapolis. The show brought in more than $1.3 million in sales. One of the highlights from the show was the awarding of the Harrison Eiteljorg Purchase Award to New Mexico painter Sean Michael Chavez for his painting Rebeldes Look (Noche), seen here. The museum is the first major museum to acquire a work by Chavez, whose star has risen quickly in a period of about four years. Other award winners were Tim Cherry, Pati Stajcar, Dave Santillanes, David Griffin, P.A. Nisbet and Krystii Melaine.

Far West rakes in $1.6 million in Texas
With a huge crowd turnout and massive sales numbers, the annual Far West show went off with a bang in Austin, Texas, in September. The show, presented by artists Mark Maggiori and Petecia Le Fawnhawk, offered works from a strong group of contemporary artists, many of them established painters with growing reputations among collectors. The entire show, which included vendor pop-ups and musical acts, realized more than $1.6 million in sales. The big sellers were both from Maggiori: Arizona Cannonball sold for $310,000 and Little Sheep, seen here, sold for $350,000. —Powered by Froala Editor
