Welcome to the November issue of Western Art Collector! Happy Thanksgiving and we hope you enjoy the festivities as the holidays begin. Small artworks are synonymous with this issue for a good reason—they make great gifts! Small works are the most versatile way to add to your collection. If you have a small space available on your wall, bring in a masterpiece at a small scale for that space. Small works can sometimes have more detail, more storytelling and more emotion in them. This is because the artist must get their vision across in a smaller space than on a large canvas. They get in there and create scenarios that astonish collectors. In fact, on several occasions Michael Clawson, while judging for our Award of Excellence, has chosen a small work as the winner. These pieces can be really magical, as you will see in our Western Small Works & Miniatures special section, which returns to the November issue. It begins on Page 60.
We also highlight small works in some of our gallery and museum coverage, including at Maxwell Alexander Gallery, Legacy Gallery and at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. These small works will lift your collection. We hope you can attend these shows, or another of the many events we cover in this issue. Adolfo Castillo and Michael Clawson will be at the annual Cowboy Artists of America show in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 7 and 8. Shows like these are where the Western magic happens.
Whether it’s great art events, or even TV streaming habits—Yellowstone, Longmire, Elkhorn and others—everything Western is experiencing a renaissance, including Western art, and its collector base is growing because of it. Our team at Western Art Collector is the authority on collectible artists. We will continue help you navigate through this wonderful art market with our previews, features and special sections. Dig in and find the artist that finds you. There are so many and we know the choice is tough. Email or call us if you have collecting questions—we have answers!
