Liz Hovley unveils major new work
We first mentioned Liz Hovley’s work in this section in July 2022. Since then, her painting has not only stepped up quite a bit, but she is also evolving in an exciting direction. Last time we showed her work, she was painting large animal subjects, such as bulls and bison, against abstracted geometric backgrounds of color. She does still work in that style, but she has also added a more grounded style with realistic backgrounds and a focus on human subjects. One stunning recent example from her studio is Throwing the Quilt, showing a woman unfurling a country quilt outdoors in the prairie wind. Definitely keep watching this artist and the exciting work coming from her studio.See more of her work at www.lizhovley.com.

Hollywood artist explores Western fine art
You may not know the name John Bell, but you’ve certainly seen his work in some capacity. Bell has been in Hollywood for decades, working behind the scenes as an artist, designer and art director on films such as The Revenant, Rango, Jurassic Park, Cars, Starship Troopers, Willow, The Rocketeer and in the Star Wars universe. He was even an Academy Award nominee for his work on Back to the Future Part II. He also worked at Nike as a senior designer and in the video game industry. He’s been a fine art painter for many years, but his recent work should speak to fans of the West, with his abstracted landscapes and fun desert forms.See more at johnbell.studio, or at Instagram @johnbellstudio. —
