Trappings of Texasis returning September 18 with another edition of engaging experiences and exceptional Western art and gear. Hosted at the Museum of the Big Bend, the celebrated show will not only include fresh Western artworks in a variety of styles and mediums, but an array of special programming as well.

Tim Oliver, Rich Lake Roundup, watercolor, 10 x 14 in.
“Trappings of Texas is more than just an art show; it’s a vibrant gathering that brings together artists, ranchers and collectors who share a deep appreciation for this unique way of life,” says Karina Canteñs, curator of temporary exhibits at the museum. “The craftsmanship on display is truly remarkable, with each piece telling a story of dedication, tradition and the enduring spirit of the West.”
Featured in the show is everything from intricately designed silver spurs and handcrafted bridles to stunning oils, watercolors and sculpture that capture the essence of ranch life.

Wilson Capron, Cowtown Collection Bit, San Joaquin mouthpiece, simple shanks, engraved sterling silver
This year, the featured artist is landscape painter Tim Oliver. For his piece Rich Lake Roundup, a watercolor depicting a run-down farmhouse, Oliver says, “[This] is a very special piece to me. I’ve sketched and painted that old house many times in the past. It’s located in northeast Terry County, Texas, on the southwest edge of a shallow salt playa named Rich Lake. A lot of history happened around there going all the way back to the 1800s when buffalo soldiers from Fort Concho were chasing Comanches up on the plains. This part of Terry County is [also] where my roots are.”
The preview party kicks everything off on September 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a weekend of artist demonstrations, presentations, a live auction and the Ranch Roundup Party. Artworks will hang through November 1 at the museum. Visit the event website for details, tickets and additional information. —
