One of the time-honored art events of the Southwest, the Western Art Show & Sale,is returning May 24 through 26 in historic Prescott, Arizona. The open-air show, now in its 51st year, has been a popular art destination for collectors and artists for decades. Not only has it helped establish some of the great Western stars early in their career, including John Coleman and Bill Nebeker, it also regularly introduces collectors to new and rising artists entering the art market.

Crowds visit the Western Art Show & Sale in Prescott, Arizona.
The three-day event, which is hosted by the Phippen Museum, takes place on the plaza around the Yavapai County Courthouse, once the seat of government for Arizona back in its territory days. The tree-lined plaza, which is also home to numerous bronze monuments with Western themes, will be filled with artist booths, where they will offer material in a variety of mediums.
Events within the show include two quickdraw challenges on May 24 and 25. Selected artists will have just 60 minutes to finish a piece of art in front of a live audience. All of the works are then auctioned in front of the crowd on the courthouse steps. Both quickdraws start at 2 p.m.

The show and the museum both support the legacy of Western artist George Phippen, who lived and worked in Prescott. “Founded to honor the legacy of George Phippen, the first president of the Cowboy Artists of America, this annual juried event has showcased the finest Western art for over five decades,” says Phippen Museum executive director Edd Kellerman. “Featuring both established and emerging artists, the show provides a rare opportunity for attendees to experience and purchase world-class art in an intimate, outdoor setting.”
