Wildlife and More

Jackson Hole Art Auction will offer more than 350 Western lots in a spring online sale.

A stunning variety of fine art— cowboys and cattle, wildlife art, Native American subjects, bronzes, figures and more—will be available May 30 during the Spring 2025 Online Auction hosted by Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Art Auction. Once primarily known for a large September sale, Jackson Hole Art Auction now offers three annual sales in February, May and September, each bringing a large volume of material to bidders.

Ken Carlson, Spring Slopes, oil on board, 24 x 36 in. Estimate: $25/45,000

“This our third annual and largest spring auction,” says managing director Kevin Doyle. “I started this auction to keep us relevant year-round for our clients. This auction, along with February, has been a great conduit for larger estate liquidations.” Doyle notes that there will be several collections represented, including one estate with bronzes by Dan Ostermiller and also important wildlife works from the Bob & Curtice McCloy Collection.

“Wildlife continues to be a strong category for us. We’ve consistently had in all auctions works by Bob Kuhn, Tucker Smith and Ken Carlson. There will be several works by Lindsay Scott in this sale,” Doyle notes.

Robert Pummill, Down from Cody, 2000, oil on canvas, 48 x 597/8 in. Estimate: $20/40,000

Highlights in the online-only sale will be three works by Carlson: Spring Slopes (est. $25/45,000), Grizzly Bear (est. $6/9,000) and Mountain Vigilance (est. $5/7,000). Other wildlife artists with works being offered are John Seerey-Lester, Lindsay Scott and Ralph Oberg, represented by a beautifully lit sunset scene titled Mountain Goats (est. $5/7,000).

Ralph Oberg, Mountain Goats, oil on board, 31½ x 41½ in. Estimate: $5/7,000

Elsewhere in the sale will be Robert Pummill’s 2000 stagecoach painting Down from Cody, estimated at $20,000 to $40,000. The setting of the painting is on a dusty road lined with trees as the sun begins to slip behind the horizon. The image is 60 inches wide and is quintessential Pummill with gorgeous color and a strong composition. “It looks fantastic. It is indeed a large and impressive painting featuring his signature team of horses and coach in action,” Doyle says. “I like that the title, Down From Cody, places it in this region. It comes from a private collector in Jackson, and whoever buys it will have a statement painting in their home or office.”

Gary Lynn Roberts, Early Morning Riders, oil on canvas, 24 x 30 in. Estimate: $10/20,000

Other artists with works in the sale are John Clymer, Richard Schmid, Gary Lynn Roberts, Clark Hulings, John Bye and many others.

Although the sale will take place online, guests can arrange to see the art in person in the auction house’s showroom on the Jackson Hole Town Square. Three bidding platforms will be available to bidders: Jackson Hole Art Auction’s in-house platform, Invaluable.com and LiveAuctioneers. Doyle expects to see strong numbers for registered bidders. “We set a record for the most registrants in our February sale and it was our highest selling online sale to date,” he says. “Our clients have been complimentary of these auctions which are conducted with a livestream video of the auctioneer. They much prefer this format than a timed auction.”
