Now available for Western art libraries is Jerry Jordan: Together Always Our Spirit,a large and magnificent book that celebrates the life, career and artwork of one of the great personalities of Taos, New Mexico.
Released in late 2023, to coincide with Jordan’s massive solo show at Legacy Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the book chronicles the artist’s many experiences in the art world, including his early days completing paint-by-number kits while on family vacations. As Jordan’s art developed further in high school and then into his 20s, he set his eyes on becoming a professional painter. The dream was solidified further after Jordan, then living in Texas, took an important early trip to Taos. He returned with his wife, Marilyn, to run an art gallery at the famous Taos Inn for a season. The year was 1965, which was not that far removed from the glory days of the Taos Society of Artists.

One of the underlying themes in the book, which is written by Western Art Collector executive editor Michael Clawson, is Jordan’s miraculous streak of chance encounters, unexplainable turns of luck and several reversals of fortune. Jordan, who sees the book as a chance to teach other artists to not give up, calls these moments “God things,” that encouraged him to keep pushing forward.
Today, his impressionist paintings, full of loose brushwork and vibrant colors, are part of many collections, and he’s well respected within the art community. “By following your passion, you will find that the winding road leads to the opportunity of success and happiness,” Jordan writes in the preface. “It is when we come to the place where we are willing to offer our pictures back to God, the source of the gift, that our pictures become finished paintings.”
