Maynard Dixon work to benefit Petrie Institute

Maxwell Alexander Gallery is now offering Maynard Dixon’s Llano de Los Pastores, which features a rare and large New Mexico scene. The painting, being offered exclusively by Maxwell Alexander Gallery, comes from the Denver Art Museum and is being sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Petrie Institute of Western American Art at the Denver Art Museum. “Llano de Los Pastores is a rare, larger-scale painting of a New Mexico landscape created on his second trip to the state,” says gallery owner Beau Alexander.

Graham | Shay 1857 acquires stunning 19th-century bronze
Now available at New York City’s Graham | Shay 1857 is a lifetime cast of John Quincy Adams Ward’s The Indian Hunter. The piece is one of the most famous works by the artist and precedes the monumental version which was placed in New York’s Central Park in 1869. The monument stands there still today. “A lithe, young Native American leans forward in a stealthy stride, eyes focused on his prey,” the gallery notes. “He restrains an eager, wolfish-looking dog with his right hand while grasping a bow and arrow in his left. In this model, Ward was responding to a larger call in the 1850s and 1860s for American subjects by American artists.”

Erika Victor breaks onto the scene with new work
Learn the name Erika Victor because she’s making exceptional paintings and you’ll want to say you knew her before she broke it big. She recently had work on view at the Women’s Work show put on by the A.R. Mitchell Museum in Trinidad, Colorado, and the Cowgirl Artists of America show. She’s active on her Instagram (@evictor.art) and will also be showing work at Jackalope Run Gallery in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. “I am a contemporary painter primarily working in oils. I love to paint landscapes and themes of the American West,” she says. “…My work celebrates the colors and lights of the desert.”

New Taylor Crisp painting now available
Another incredible new artist to keep your eyes on is Taylor Crisp, who was one of the first artists we featured in this relatively new section. Her following has been steadily building and you’ll likely see her work again as her popularity grows. Her paintings have a modern edge to them, with large forms, gorgeous color and abstract design. This work, the 24-by-48-inch painting titled Market Day, is now available at Manitou Galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Scoop it up before someone else does.
