Along the half-mile stretch of the historic Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico, there are more than 100 galleries, shops, artist studios and restaurants, all attracting major art collectors, enthusiasts and anyone looking to surround themselves with rich, cultural experiences. Every year, the area’s galleries and artists come together for the Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out,during which the public can find an array of demonstrations and exhibitions.

“This special event harkens back to the day when it was a common occurrence to see artists along Canyon Road plein air painting,” says event organizers. “Now you’ll find artists working in various genre and media. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, and the rare opportunity to watch top-tier artists create. Opportunities will be there for enthusiasts to request live commissions, to ask questions, and to simply be wowed by the wealth of talent and exuberance of the artists.”
Participating galleries include Ventana Fine Art. “This is a great event for friends, collectors and the artists getting to say hello to one another and enjoying the beautiful, brisk fall day,” says gallery owner Connie Axton. “Our [demonstrating artists are] John Axton, Angus, Frank Balaam, Dick Evans, Natasha Isenhour, Marshall Noice, Cassidy Watt, Brittany Weaver, Siri Hollander, Mark White and Roger Williams.”

Tierra Mar Gallery will feature an exhibition of work by Scout Dunbar, whose whimsical mixed media pieces “capture the enchantment of our world,” says the artist. The exhibition will also showcase the work of woodworker Doug Jones, who combines fine woodworking with fire processes evolved from the Japanese technique of shou sugi ban.
Attendees to the 2024 Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out will find everything from traditional to abstract contemporary pieces, and everything in between—truly something for everyone. The event will take place October 19 through 20, so don’t miss out on a wealth of community engagement. —
