Beginning September 1, the Society of Animal Artists is hosting its 64th Annual Art and the Animal exhibition. It’s a wondrous celebration of wildlife art, featuring the artwork of 118 SAA members working in a range of styles, mediums and techniques.
National and international wildlife artists whose work will be part of the upcoming exhibition include Joseph Digangi, Amy L. Stauffer, Jeff Gandert and Millie Whipplesmith Plank, among many others.

“The society is devoted to promoting excellence in the artistic portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet,” says Wes Siegrist, Society of Animal Artists executive director. “Members will be present during our opening weekend events in October to provide free demonstrations at the museum.” The organization will also celebrate a special achievement this year by Master Signature Member Guy Coheleach, who has participated in 50 of SAA’s annual member shows.

“We all have connections to the natural world,” Siegrist continues. “For most of us, this experience is one of escape and relaxation from the hectic aspects of life. It can be temporary and transient, such as watching a bird outside an office window, or it can be deeper like memories of camping, fishing, hiking, or hunting. Wildlife art connects us to our encounters in the natural world or transports us to places we wish to be.”

Art and the Animal will be displayed at the Sioux City Public Museum, Sioux City, Iowa, through November 30. A variety of opening weekend events will take place October 11 to 12, including a reception with attending artists as well as art demonstrations. —
