“I’m hoping to have seven or eight paintings, and I’m really excited about the mixture of subjects and materials for these pieces,” Polzin says. “Each one is a little different, including a new floral piece that is very different from some of my other floral works—the colors are very vibrant and the light is brighter. It almost has a French countryside sort of appeal to it.”
One work completed early for the show is El Charro, showing a large sombrero and a Winchester rifle near a blanket, a gunbelt and a set of spurs. Another work Polzin will complete for the show is a painting with a mountaineering theme, titled The Alpinist.

“The angle I’m going for is 1930s and 1940s as many people are discovering the national parks and blazing new trails. I want it to feel like a part of Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons,” the artist says. “The central component is this great old pack I have with some climbing gear around it. I also have an old national park poster and a photo of a guy climbing a mountain that will appear in the scene.” —
