Painter Dan Knepper has always been captivated by nature.

The Forest King, oil, 30 x 45 in. Available at Coeur d’Alene Art Auction.

The Last Wild Places, oil, 30 x 40 in. Available at the Jackson Hole Art Auction.
“I went to the mountains, and I found my path. I realized this is what I want to paint…this feeling, this connection, this discovery, this moment in this place. I want to paint these last wild places and the wildlife that inhabits them in such a way that standing before my paintings you are transported to the moment, in that place,” Knepper says. “I want you to smell the sagebrush and pine, marvel at the sparkle on the water cascading and plunging to fall from dramatic heights, taste the dust kicked up by the bison or cowboys working the herd and breathe in the West. I want you to feel the pull to explore around the next bend.”
Knepper will have work in Hold Your Horses! starting July 6 at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, Arizona; at the July 27 Coeur d’Alene Art Auction in Reno, Nevada; and then in September at the Jackson Hole Art Auction and Western Visions, both in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. —
