Authenticity and realism are the driving force behind the highly detailed drawings of artist Andy Pelster out of Parker, Colorado. “Growing up on a cattle ranch in southeastern Colorado instilled in me a tremendous respect for those who manage and preserve our rangelands while working to feed the world,” he says. “My subjects are family and friends who continue to uphold the traditional ranching lifestyle, and it’s important that I depict them as thoughtfully and accurately as possible.”

He continues: “I strive for an image that is reminiscent of a gelatin silver photographic print, to add a nostalgic yet timeless feeling to my contemporary subjects. However, I hope my drawings convey something more realistic than a photograph. Like looking through a portal into another tangible, though monochromatic, world.”
