Growing up as a farm girl in Texas, artist Teresa Lynn Johnson has always had a love of animals and the landscape. Johson portrays a spirit of freedom and independence in her work. “I grew up with strong work ethics and a love of the land, wildlife and farm animals,” she says.

Determination, oil, 24 x 18”
Johnson spent much of her childhood not only in the farmlands of Texas, but in the wide open spaces of New Mexico and the mountains of Colorado. Her art journey began a decade ago in New Mexico after she moved to the northwest corner of the state, with a one-year mentorship under Taos painter Kevin Macpherson, followed by a six-month mentorship under Jay Moore of Colorado.

I Found Gold, oil, 16 x 20”
Living in the Land of Enchantment, Johnson finds inspiration everywhere, most especially the way beautiful light falls on a subject. “I like the quote from Andrew Loomis: ‘All the visible world is only light on form,’ because light on a subject is what grabs my attention,” she says. “It touches my soul to see the way light caresses the beauty of the land or lights up the characteristics of an animal. I love the Western landscape where nature shines with its beauty in majestic mountains, rugged deserts and wide-open plains.”

Innocence, oil, 16 x 20”
Johnson is a representational artist working primarily in oils and has shown and sold her work in California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Nevada and Florida through juried art shows and Western art exhibitions. She is currently working on new art to exhibit at the LA Art Show in February of 2024. “Art is my passion, and I love to share the beauty of nature and love of animals through my work with the world,” she adds. —
