Every year, Scottsdale Artists’ School in Scottsdale, Arizona, hosts the Beaux Arts celebration and fundraiser. Proceeds directly benefit the 501(c)(3) non-profit institution, which has evolved into one of the country’s top independent art schools, offering robust art programs for adults, as well as a premier youth academy and extensive outreach programs. However, this year is bigger than ever, as SAS celebrates its 40th anniversary with a retro ’80s theme. If Ferris Bueller and Marty McFly could be there, they would.

“This 40th anniversary is a time for reflection and celebration,” says SAS executive director Trudy Hayes. “It’s a testament to the dedication of artists, instructors, staff and supporters who’ve fueled our growth. It reminds us of the lives we’ve touched and nurtured artistically, filling me with immense pride…For the school itself, this milestone showcases our commitment to fostering the arts.”
Indeed, for more than four decades now, SAS has been a hub for education and community in the art world, giving artists of all skill levels and walks of life the opportunity to further hone their craft and explore new avenues in their practice.

“We encourage all attendees to come dressed in their best ’80s attire,” says Hayes. “Whether channeling the fashion of the New Wave era or rocking some classic ’80s pop culture references or one’s favorite Dynasty character, it’s the perfect opportunity to showcase the style of the ’80s. So, it will be a night of nostalgia, fun and surprises.”
This year’s celebration will showcase a variety of artwork by award-winning artists, including several standout pieces of Southwestern landscapes. “Russell Case is renowned for his stunning depictions of the American West, and we have one of his masterpieces that captures the vastness and beauty of the Southwestern landscape,” says Hayes. “His use of light and shadow creates a mesmerizing depth in his work that draws viewers into the scene.”

She also cites the art of Kent Wallis, which transports viewers to the heart of the Southwestern frontier, and the vibrant color and dynamic brushwork of John Hughes.
“In addition to these outstanding Southwestern landscapes, we [also] have a selection of Western style works that pay homage to the rich heritage and culture of the American West as displayed in Carol Hamilton’s piece Pollen, Seed and Waterand Tina Garrett’s skillful depiction of a Cowboy at the campfire,” says Hayes.
