Susan Eyer-Anderson sells figurative work at Principle Gallery

In August, Principle Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia, hosted the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) Best of America Juried Exhibition. Among the artists was Susan Eyer-Anderson, who brought the 12-by-12-inch oil Little Pistol. The work was purchased by one of Principle’s longtime collectors, who was perusing through the work and charmed by the painting, which later won the NOAPS award for best figure/portrait. “I was captivated by this painting from the moment we unpacked it,” says Taylor Chauncey, assistant director at the gallery. “It exudes strength, but there’s also an underlying message telling girls and women that they can be anything they want to be. This isn’t a portrait of a little girl playing cowgirl; she’s telling us that she is a cowgirl and proud of it.”

Copley’s Sporting Sale brings in $3.6 million
On July 13 and 14, Copley Fine Art Auctions held its annual Sporting Sale in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Not only did the auction realize more than $3.6 million in sales, a number of important pieces found new homes at high prices. The top painting lot was this Aiden Lassell Ripley piece titled Dove Hunting, which sold for $114,000, more than doubling its high estimate and setting a new world record for the sporting artist. The overall top lot, though, was Charles A. Safford’s Sleeping Goose decoy, which sold for $594,000, establishing a new world record for the maker.
