On October 6 and 7, Santa Fe Trails Fine Art will present a four-artist show in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Along with Jenny Booth, Cheri Cappello and Dan Deuter, one of the artists participating in the show is Jerry Salinas, who has been painting for 25 years.

“I have been passionate about art since childhood, so I have always felt very fortunate that the path to my present-day career as a full-time oil painter has been a continuous thread,” Salinas says. “I was lucky enough to start very early and be encouraged by my family to draw and paint. I received my first real art lessons in high school and knew this is what I will do for the rest of my life. I was accepted to the prestigious American Academy of Art in Chicago where I learned from extraordinary instructors and other gifted artists who continue to influence my work today. After graduation, I joined the workforce and became an illustrator for ad agencies. I always painted when I had free time and spent many hours at the Palette and Chisel Academy.”

Salinas lists a wide range of influences—Antonio Mancini, N.C. Wyeth, John Nieto, Romel de la Torre, Bernie Fuchs and Walter Ufer—though he largely credits Western photographers for helping him see his path. “If it wasn’t for them, I would not have this desire to paint the life and culture that is different from the rest of the country,” he says.

The Santa Fe Trail Fine Art show will open October 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., with an opening reception, and then follow up on October 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with art demonstrations and opportunities to meet the four artists. —
