Colt Idol, one of the fast-rising stars of Western art, grew up within a Western lifestyle in Montana, so his work is informed by not only his surroundings but also his memories.

East of the Rockies we would look for fossils and arrowheads, and west of the Rockies we would see abundant wildlife at the National Bison Range or near-perfect scenery in Glacier National Park,” Idol says. “When I began my art journey in my early 20s, I had an idea of what I wanted to paint, just not how I wanted to paint. I didn’t know immediately that color and light would become defining aspects of my work, and thus, my heart and soul. Now I see one of my main purposes in art is to find and portray passion. I want to paint scenes from our history that are reinvigorated and electric. I want to paint the moments in nature not as our camera captures them but rather how we feel them.”
