On June 3 from 6 to 11 p.m., visitors can flock to the National Ranching Heritage Center for a night of music, food and art during the 2023 Summer Stampede Western Art and Gear Show. This annual fundraising event for NRHC is a celebration of paintings, sculpture, spurs, bits, silverwork and more, as well as the artists who create them.

Herman Walker, Along the Little Joshua, oil, 18 x 24”

Summer Stampede creates a wonderful atmosphere for all the attendees with the art, gear, food, music and opportunities to meet the featured artists all coming together for a memorable event,” says Robert Tidwell, Helen DeVitt Jones Interim Endowed Director of Collections, Exhibits and Research. “There are so many talented people who participate in the show that it is difficult to pick one favorite artist each year. There are some artists/artisans who attendees eagerly await each year. I think that Billy Klapper, Cotton Elliott and Brian Asher are some of the most sought after artisans. Peter Robbins, Wayne Baize, Julie Oriet and Emily McCartney are some of the most popular two-dimensional artists.”

JaNeil Anderson, Ornery, oil, 14 x 20”

Additional artists scheduled to exhibit their work in the upcoming show and sale include Baru Forell, Ben Tolley, Bev Pettit, Billy Albin, Bruce Greene, Buddy Knight, Edgar Sotelo, Garland Weeks, Gary Dunshee, Herman Walker, JaNeil Anderson, Jason Scull, Jerry Lindley, Mary Ross Buchholz, Michael Tittor, Mike Capron, Mike Tabor, Mikel Donahue, Rosie Sandifer, Russell Yates, Shawn Cameron, T.D. Kelsey, Teal Blake, Troy Menix and Tyler Crow.

Since its inception, the NRHC has aimed to preserve the history of ranching in North America, and as such, all artwork in the show and sale must meet the criteria of relating to ranching culture. And while the NRHC only sells art once a year in June, Western art is on display in the museum galleries year round. —
