Wild Energy

This year’s Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston saw lively attendance and enthusiasm.

Art and animal lovers alike converged in the Lowcountry of Charleston, South Carolina, this past February for another edition of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. A sense of exhilaration seemed to permeate every aspect of the event, which takes place across five venues throughout downtown Charleston, along with new and returning programming at every exhibit site.

“We are so thankful for the atmosphere that all of the people in the SEWE community come together to create,” SEWE organizers note. The new live art series was a tremendous success and gave visitors the opportunity to engage with talented SEWE artists in action, as well as learn more about the process behind their work. A live art event took place each day in the Fine Art Gallery including “Mother-Daughter” duos, graphite sketches and a quick-draw/speed-sculpt.

Among the 500-plus works of art on display by some of the best wildlife artists in the country, SEWE also played host to a number of conservation groups as well. The Gaillard Center hosted the National Marine Mammal Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Busch Wildlife and Forrest Galante for performances on the stage. Marion Square hosted the Birds of Prey flight demonstrations, the National Marine Mammal Foundation Dolphin Doctor Workshops and the ever-popular Disc Dog Competitions.

“Wildlife art is the core of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. The Fine Art Gallery at SEWE 2023 was filled with incredible work from artists all across the world from Alaska, South Africa, Canada and the U.S.,” says Meagan Trotta, SEWE marketing and sales director. “We are really proud to be a platform for these artists and to connect them with an audience that really appreciates their work.”
