Martin Grelle sells top work at Settlers West show
On February 11, Settlers West Gallery presented the annual American Miniatures show of small works in Tucson, Arizona. These popular and well-attended shows often bring out hundreds of collectors and artists to celebrate the opening. The show hangs for several weeks after it opens, but most of the action takes place the night of the by-draw sale. This year’s show featured a number of noteworthy sales, but none as big as Martin Grelle’s 12-by-12-inch painting Uneasy Crossing, which sold for $12,000.

Billy Schenck painting sells at Legacy’s Painted West show
One of the highlights of Legacy Gallery’s Painted West show, which opened February 17 in Scottsdale, Arizona, was Billy Schenck’s Descent from Moki, a 40-by-40-inch work showing a horse and rider with land and sky behind them in a dramatic composition. The work was done in Schenck’s unique paint-by-numbers style that accentuates the forms and colors of the desert in the Southwest. Other artists who had noteworthy sales were Glenn Dean, G. Russell Case, Jeremy Winborg, Tom Browning, Mark Boedges, Grant Redden and others. —
