A powerhouse line up Texan artists make up InSight Gallery’s annual Texas Masters show.

A powerhouse lineup of Texan artists make up InSight Gallery’s annual Texas Masters show, featuring nearly 50 new paintings and sculptures. The gallery is in its 14th year exhibiting the unique and diverse voices of these Texas-based artists, including Phil Bob Borman, Mary Ross Buchholz, Nancy Bush, Cheri Christensen, Douglas Clark, Mick Doellinger, Jim Eppler, Bruce Greene, David Griffin, Brian Grimm, Francois Koch, Mark Haworth, Qiang Huang, Kyle Ma, Kay Northup, Tony Pro, Robert Pummill, Aleksander Titovets, Lyuba Titovets and Ann Kraft Walker.Ann Kraft Walker, The Potting Shed, oil, 22 x 28"Christensen and Buchholz both capture many of the livestock and other animals that are iconic of Western life. Currently, Christensen has two paintings completed for the Texas Masters show, with a third larger painting in the works. Fredericksburg Afternoon depicts a youthful cow looking directly at the viewer. “I love venturing out into the countryside in Fredericksburg, Texas…If I go in the late afternoon and I’m lucky, I might come upon a younger cow nicely backlit, like this one. It’s all about the light to me and how it dances along the form. White cows are my favorite because the surrounding area reflects into it, giving the shadow areas amazing color,” she says. In her piece New Wings, a yellow duckling plays in a small puddle of water. “The effect of the water on the stone was wonderful! The color of the sky and the surrounding area reflected on the water. I love when these moments happen. As I was laying on my yoga mat, so I could be a part of this duckling’s world, it started flapping its little wings. I loved it and couldn’t wait to capture it in a painting.”Cheri Christensen, Fredericksburg Afternoon, oil, 9 x 12"Several of Buchholz’s paintings are from animals on her ranch. “There is new life beginning in the springtime. That includes our new foals,” the artist says. “Taking a Sip is a drawing of one such foal; and, I never tire of watching mother and foal interact. It’s these sensitive moments that I most enjoy conveying to the viewer.”Tony Pro, Fireside stories, oil, 18 x 14"

Kyle Ma, Fall Along the Pedernales River, oil, 18 x 14"

Collectors can explore other subjects like landscapes, still lifes and figures within the exhibition as well. Pro’s Fireside stories depicts a grandfather regaling stories of the past to his grandchildren, as well as to the viewer. “It’s a tender moment between [the] subject and the viewer that, hopefully, captures a memory to the viewer,” Pro says. “I wanted the character to be looking at the viewer versus a more picture window scene looking in. I feel it gives it a more personal and captivating touch. I also love painting firelight as it gives warmth and depth to the subject, much like Anders Zorn’s paintings, who has been a huge inspiration to my work over the years.”

The Texas Masters exhibition will be on view March 3 through March 24, with an opening reception on the first day from 5 to 7 p.m. —
