Three Generations

Medicine Man Gallery celebrates the Patania Family in special jewelry group show.

Opening January 28 at Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson, Arizona, is Legendary Patania Jewelry: In the Tradition of the Southwest, a jewelry group show that will celebrate three generations of the Patania family, known for their fine art jewelry. The family brought stunning jewelry to clients all around the Southwest through the Thunderbird Shop, first in New Mexico and then later in Arizona. Left: Frank Patania Sr. (1898-1964), Pair of Burnham Turquoise Nugget and Silver Cuffs, ca. 1950, size 6½” each. Right: Frank Patania Sr. (1898-1964), Double-Strand Morenci Turquoise and Silver Necklace, ca. 1960, 12”

In addition to the three Patanias—Frank Sr., Frank Jr. and Sam Patania—the Thunderbird Shop was also a great destination to see artwork from Native American craftsmen and artists. The Patania brand is often associated with its incredible silver designs with magnificent stonework that includes exceptional pieces of turquoise.

In addition to the show and sale, there will also be a book signing by Pat and Kim Messier, who recently wrote a hardcover book titled Legendary Patania Jewelry: In the Tradition of the Southwest.
