Gladys Roldan-de-Moras has had consistent representation in galleries and shows throughout the Southwest and Texas since she made a splash in the Western art world. She will be making an exciting debut in California this February when her work appears at the Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum of the American West.
Spirit of San Antonio, oil on linen, 24 x 36”“I am very excited to present my art for the first time on the West Coast. My paintings, which represent my heritage, portray the national sport of my native Mexico: Charrería. This is something I do with great honor and respect. I have tried to capture a joyful, exuberant Charreada (a charro festival and competition) during Fiesta Week,” she says. “Since this vibrant activity took place in the U.S., the riders processioned into the arena carrying the American and Mexican Flags. Charreadas are always colorful, memorable spectacles to take in.”
Cien Años, oil, on linen, 20 x 11”In addition to the Masters of the American West, Roldan-de-Moras will also have work in two other important museum exhibitions: the Night of Artists on March 24 at the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, and the Prix de West on June 9 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
Firsta Charra, oil on linen, 30 x 40”One of her new works is Spirit of San Antonio, “a painting in which I aimed to summarize not only the magical beauty and treasured traditions of San Antonio but also how I see and feel its uniqueness,” the artist says. “Featured in this painting are part of the façade of the stately San Jose Mission as it still stands, gracefully imposing and charmingly august, and a young, dazzling, courageous escaramuza rider clad in her traditional dress with countless ruffles and layers.” —
